Creating a Rich Background for an Abstract Painting
To create a rich background for an abstract painting, I like to use a combination of blended colors and texture. In two new canvases I started recently, I first applied spots of acrylic paint from titanium to brown, and then blended them together. I covered the canvas, including the sides, and then let it dry. The next day I turned the canvas 90 degrees and painted it again, so that all four sides were covered and the surface had two coats:
