The Painting Process
My painting process is analogous to the improvisation of a jazz musician. It is the painting surface that I love, the lusciousness of color in its thick and thin varieties, flat and opaque to keep the eye on the surface, or transparent and airy to suggest deep space. My goal is to stay as close to the edge as possible, to keep that sense of organic happening, as if the painting had grown itself rather than having been crafted by me.
Do you have a special request in size or colors?
If you love a particular painting, but it is already sold or in the wrong size, I can paint one in a similar style and colors for you.
I used to think I would hate painting commissions, because my work is spontaneous and born of the moment. But when I actually tried one, I found it was fun to revisit compositions, colors and themes I'd painted before. Each time, there is variation and improvisation which makes every painting unique, and my clients have been very happy with the results.
